This Badass Gave Me The Kick In The Pants I Didn’t Know I Needed

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

I’m not a big inspirational book kinda guy - but I found a self-help book that isn't drenched in clichés about rainbows, unicorns, and eternal happiness. Jen Sincero's "You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life" was an absolute game-changer for me in the self-help genre.

Sincero’s style? It’s like having coffee with your straight-talking, no-nonsense aunt. She’s got that wicked blend of humor and blunt honesty that feels more like a friendly kick in the pills than a gentle pat on the back. If you appreciate a direct, hilarious approach to life advice - think of someone unafraid to tell you to get off your booty and own your potential - you’ll love this book. If that kind of blunt love isn’t your cup of Diet Dr. Pepper, well, maybe reach for something softer.

But for me, this was a perfect fit.

This book is like chatting with someone who both believes in you and won’t let you wallow in excuses. It’s full of laugh-out-loud moments and truths that hit hard in the best way possible. It’s not bogged down with theories or jargon that make you feel like you need a Psychology degree just to understand. Nope - Sincero keeps it real, telling you exactly how to shift your mindset to start living the life you’ve always wanted.

Here’s the thing: we all have doubts. We all hesitate. The lucky ones? They recognize that they want something different and actually take steps to make it happen. This book is the perfect guide to help you do that. I started with the audiobook – and loved it so much I ordered a hard copy. I found myself nodding along, jotting down notes, and yes, even highlighting passages I knew I’d want to revisit.

Sincero breaks things down into bite-sized, easy-to-digest chapters. I tackled a few chapters each Saturday morning with my coffee, and by the time I finished, I felt like I had a whole new outlook and a much more positive inner dialogue. Self-awareness, taking action, life perspective - this book tackles all of it in a way that’s approachable, encouraging, and refreshingly fun.

Five stars, hands down.

One standout line? “There’s nothing as unstoppable as a freight train full of f***-yeah.”

It’s gold - like the entire book.
